WORKSHOP

The carpentry workshop was an important part of the Salina’s daily operations. Here, carpenters made and repaired wooden components for the sluices – grooves, braces and gates used to direct and control the movement of water through the salt pans. They also produced formwork for construction works, planks, pontoons, fences and gates for the crystallisation ponds.

A seemingly simple material such as wood played an important role in the complex system of salt production. Without the work of the carpenters, proper water management would not have been possible – and without water, there would have been no salt.

The project is implemented by the Dr Martin Schneider-Jacoby Association – MSJA,
with the support of the Tourism Organisation of Ulcinj Municipality.
