SALT PROCESSING HANGAR
After months of travelling through the Salina’s salt pans under the influence of the sun and wind, the harvested salt began a new stage right here – in the salt processing facility.
The processing hangar was where natural sea salt was prepared for everyday use. After being transported from the crystallisation ponds, the salt passed through various stages of processing – washing, drying, grinding and packaging.
In this space, natural processes and industrial technology came together. Machinery made it possible to transform raw sea salt into a product ready for households, the food industry and other markets throughout the former Yugoslavia.
Particular attention was paid to product quality and quality control. Every step – from the size of the crystals to the final packaging – was part of a system that built the recognition and identity of Ulcinj salt over decades. The salt processing hangar bears witness to a period when Ulcinj Salina was not simply a place where salt was produced, but a modern industrial complex encompassing the entire process: from the sea and salt crystals to the finished product that reached consumers.

The project is implemented by the Dr Martin Schneider-Jacoby Association – MSJA,
with the support of the Tourism Organisation of Ulcinj Municipality.
