MAINTENANCE WORKSHOP

Behind every salt pan, pump and machine were people whose names were rarely mentioned, but without whom salt production would not have been possible. The workshop was where the entire technical system of Ulcinj Salina was maintained and repaired.

Skilled craftsmen from a range of trades worked here, including locksmiths, electricians, sheet-metal workers, welders, mechanics and lathe operators. The workshop was equipped with lathes, drilling machines, electric and gas welding equipment, as well as other tools required for manufacturing and repairing mechanical parts.

Every day, pumps were repaired, machinery was maintained, spare parts were manufactured and faults were fixed to ensure that production could continue without interruption. The workshop also housed the offices of mechanical and electrical engineers, who worked together with the craftsmen to plan maintenance and improve the operation of the production system.

The workshop was much more than a place for repairs. It was a place of knowledge, craftsmanship and practical solutions, where experience was passed down from older to younger generations of workers.Every successfully repaired fault meant that production could continue and brought the Salina one step closer to another salt harvest.

Today, this building bears witness to the people whose skills and dedication kept one of the largest industrial systems on the Montenegrin coast running for decades.
