WAREHOUSE I & II

While the Raw Salt Hangar was used to store unprocessed salt, Warehouses I and II held the finished product. Processed and packaged salt for human consumption was stored here, ready to be shipped to market, along with coarsely ground salt intended for spreading on roads.

The warehouses were the final stop in a long production process that began with seawater, continued through kilometres of canals and salt pans, harvesting, washing and processing, and ended with a product ready for the customer.

What remains inside these spaces today gives them particular significance. A considerable quantity of salt from the final production in 2013 can still be seen, preserved in various types of packaging.

Today, these packages are no longer merely products of the former factory – they have become authentic traces of the final chapter in Ulcinj’s almost eight-decade-long tradition of salt production.

The project is implemented by the Dr Martin Schneider-Jacoby Association – MSJA,
with the support of the Tourism Organisation of Ulcinj Municipality.
