STARA UPRAVNA ZGRADA

The Old Administration Building of the “Bajo Sekulić” Ulcinj Salina is one of the most valuable surviving structures from the period when this industrial complex was established. It was built together with the Salina in the late 1920s and early 1930s, as the administrative centre of the future saltworks.

The building was designed by engineer Gvido Grisogono, one of the authors of the Ulcinj Salina project, following the model of administrative buildings at European saltworks. Located at the very entrance to the complex, the building played an important role: production was organised from here, operations were managed, and decisions were made that shaped the everyday life of the Salina.

Zbog močvarnog zemljišta nekadašnjeg Zoganjskog blata, objekat je izgrađen na šipovima, što predstavlja posebno zanimljivo građevinsko rješenje tog vremena. Uprkos decenijama promjena, razornog zemljotresa 1979. godine, zgrada je sačuvala originalni izgled i konstrukciju.

Together with the salt pans, the Old Administration Building represents a unique example of early 20th-century industrial architecture in this part of Montenegro and an important part of the identity of Ulcinj Salina.

Today, although it no longer serves its original purpose, it remains one of the most important witnesses to a time when Ulcinj was shaping its history through salt production.
